DJ  Lafon

(1929 Utah – 2011 Norman, Oklahoma.) Born and raised in Utah, D.J. Lafon realized at age 15 that he wanted to be an artist. He entered a national art competition when he was 18 and won second place. His work was published in Life Magazine. He received formal training at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City where he earned his B.F.A. and M.F.A. He worked as an illustrator and art educator before serving as Chair of the Art Department at Oklahoma’s East Central University for twenty years. He has also served as Visual Arts Director for the Oklahoma Arts Institute and served as Guest Artist at Wichita State University.
