Clark Britton

(October 11, 1930 – June 6, 2025)

Clark Britton was a Professor Emeritus in Art and Design at Wichita State University and a widely exhibited artist. Over the years, his work has included paintings, prints, book designs, and film animation shown in exhibitions around the world. For the past several decades, Britton had focused on intricate papercuts, crafted in his small Wichita studio with nothing more than an X-acto knife and a precise eye. Many pieces are no larger than an index card, each cut from a single sheet of paper to reveal delicate worlds of birds, trees, puppets, villages, and even self-portraits. Britton described his papercuts as “fragile, like lace… light as air.”
