Final Friday | November 30th | 5:30 – 9:00 “The story of this exhibit begins with Henri Matisse. I was flipping through a book that showed his paintings next to photographs of objects and rooms depicted in the paintings. It was a revelation to me that this great modern master simply painted the everyday objects in his life. No exotic locale, no dramatic vistas, rather just the people and things inhabiting his studio. I immediately fell in love with the idea of finding inspiration for painting in my own humble surroundings. And so began this new series of artworks looking at the things and spaces in my life. As the subjects are essentially mundane, the painting, and perhaps the manner of painting, comes to the forefront of content. Art as a celebration of colors, shapes and textures. The transformative power of seeing is laid forth as the deeper meaning of the art. But my greatest and rather unexpected joy from making art in this mindset has been that I now see paintings everywhere as I go about my daily activities. I live my life in a painting.” –Brian Hinkle, October 2018 *For December Final Friday we will still have some of Brian’s show on view, along with some of his other great works. It will be a variety of his different styles so viewers can experience all the great work he does.
